I was having a serious talk with my son recently when I asked him whether he will take care of us when we’re too old already to provide for him. Well, he instantly narrated his plans for us. I asked him if he intends to let us live with him supposed that his wife would not be open to the idea of having old people live with them. Well, he told me that his wife could always leave the house and he won’t even care.

I laugh for awhile but then I realized that my son was indeed serious. He has always been consistent when it comes to taking care of us. I still call him “my baby” though and it seems that treating him as one has made him so attached to us as our child amidst adolescence. Alongside, we are teaching him independence but still, I would want him to grow old knowing that he’s our baby and we are mom and dad!

I Love My ParentsYou reap what you sow. From birth, we have reared our son to have a strong bond with us. Besides, he is our one and only child and we have nothing in this life but our son as our trophy. Although I will not require him to compromise his personal happiness just to take care of us when we age, I was more than happy to hear that at a young age, he was firm on his belief that blood is thicker than water.

How many children nowadays who would finish school because of their parents sacrifices and hard work yet they do not even think of getting back to their parents to assist them in their needs. There are individuals who would eventually get good jobs in good companies and afford the best things in life yet they have parents who are still working like bees supporting their remaining children who are still in school.

As a first born, I have my own shortcomings but I have always shared my blessings with my parents. My siblings grew up the same as my son did. They all have high regards to parents. I have a sister though married has always been supportive to my parents’ needs. She has been supporting the schooling of my other siblings too while other people would rather think about securing their future by having huge savings.

I am not able to do the same deed as my sister but I know that given the chance and resources, I would do the same. The point here is not to put emphasis on my action or that of my sister or my son’s. I want to express my concern with regards to kids growing up and forgetting where they came from. I want to make sure that someday, there would always be kids going back to their parents to take care of them.

I believe that a successful individual knows how to go back to his roots. Regardless of your title and degree or whether you are the best doctor in town, the top lawyer of the country or the highest politician of the land, you are nothing if not for your parents. You are nothing if you do not know how to take care of your own. Although parents will not require you to do so, you have to love and take care of them!

Amidst age, remember mom and dad!

Goal Setting

Why would I waste my time trying to save a lot so I could show off to others that I am indeed a successful person? Why would I go back again to school and put too much stress on my brain memorizing new lessons just so I could get another degree or put an extra suffix on my name? Why would subject myself to too much politics just so I could climb myself up the corporate ladder and becomes the ultimate boss? Why?

Well, many of us get the drive to do things not to advance ourselves in terms of personal growth but to prove to others how good we are. We often find ourselves enduring all the tests of time not because we want to but because we want to show others that we can. It’s funny but it’s true. We are driven by the fact that the more we can show off, the more people will get to realize how successful we are.

Having spent almost 2 decades in school, I am wondering why I still get to feel the push to enter the university once again so I could brag a master’s degree. It took me so many years longing for the day that I would finally graduate so I could start working and enjoying life. Now that I am done with all the homework, projects and waking up early for school, I am once again trying to take graduate studies.

SuccessI am almost halfway the race but because I wanted to show others that I am too fast for the run, I am taking another lap just to show-off that I can outshine others. Well, this may be true for all of us. I have been thinking lately why people get to feel this way. It may be their thirst for success or just plain boastfulness. For me, I am doing all these because I want to grow as a person. No more. No less!

I want to have an MBA degree because I want to be a top manager someday. I want to go back to school not just for the degree but also to expand my professional network and further enhance my business skills since I need it in my job. I subjected myself to extreme stress and politics because I want to train myself not to quit in difficult times. Climbing up is not easy so I need to have all the training I can get.

I have not switched career since I realized my passion for computers. For almost 15 years since college, I have been doing programming, system administration, networking and project management. I have been practicing the same craft for more than a decade now. It is not just about having a good name and a good reputation for me but it’s all about maximizing life and growing towards who I wanted to be.

As I was preparing some documents for visa processing, I got curious about my level of proficiency with regards to the English language. Since I will be taking the International English Language Testing System or commonly known as IELTS, I thought I would check some free sample exams online just to check my level.

So I clicked this link – IELTS FREE LEVEL TEST and answered 15 sample test questions. Since it’s a free online practical test to gauge you quickly on what level you are with regards to your language proficiency with English, it’s just a preview of what a typical exam looks like. I would assume that the actual exam would be harder.

The exam is quite short so I completed it quickly and got a read the article C2 Advanced Level rating. It made me laugh for awhile but I guess the actual exam would be quite difficult since it would cover more items and will cover listening, reading, writing and speaking the language. Nonetheless, I’m happy to know that I’m still good at English!

Anyway, you can try as well. Take the IELTS FREE LEVEL TEST now! Click HERE!

iPhone 4S

October 4, 2011. Apple just unveiled yet another revolutionary iPhone product but it’s not iPhone 5 as rumored and very much expected by the world. It’s called iPhone 4S instead! Well, Apple stocks went down and so many people got disappointed just because they were expecting the “5” as a suffix and not the “4S”. Amidst this, I smell yet another success for Apple! It’s the most amazing iPhone yet!

Steve Jobs - Apple Co-FounderI guess, if I were to change the name to iPhone 5 even if I retain all the new features of the iPhone 4S, people will be happier thinking they have a totally new product. Nonetheless, I think that iPhone 4S exceeds my expectation of what would it be for iPhone 5 less the changes in appearance. iPhone 4S is the fifth generation of iPhone retaining the exterior design of the iPhone 4 but it’s insanely greater inside!

But then again, the question is – what’s with the name? I guess, I have to answer it myself! Well, it might be coincidence but I think that the meaning of iPhone 4S is iPhone 4 Steve! Indeed, it is the latest product dedicated to Steve Jobs. Perhaps, it is the completion of Steve Jobs list of functionalities supposed to be incorporated with the iPhone. Thus… iPhone 4S!

Dog Killers

”Hi guys, i need to ask you a huge favor. Please circulate this photo on your profiles and send it to your friends. We need to find these people and make them pay for the abuse and pain they are inflicting on innocent animals. We don’t know what country they are at, but Facebook is worldwide, so let’s use the power of social media and friends to capture these abusers. Thank you in advance, i would be so grateful if you could do that for the little animals out there. Please notify the police and animal protection services as soon as you come across some valid information.”

Note: I just read the post above via Facebook and I thought of sharing it as well just so we could give these two young guys their lesson on how to treat pets with dignity.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)… I hope you get to read this as well! I hope we could identify these culprits and have them educated. Thanks!

UnfriendFacebook is somehow annoying sometimes. Well, I blame the people behind the accounts but I guess that social networking sites have created a divide more than unity. These days, we see people fighting over because someone “unfriended” another or that another person is blocking another an access to a photo album.

It may sound petty but indeed, these acts are somehow provocative because we are already used to associating our relationship with people based on our relationship in social networks. If we like someone, we give them full access while people we hate are restricted via strict privacy settings. It’s funny and immature but it happens!

I am quite wondering as well why we are so attached to our keyboards and computers that we rather express our feelings through social networking sites than talking to people face to face. I never had friends who clicked “unfriend” to block me off but I knew someone who would often change privacy settings for unknown motives.

One day you have full access to information, the next day you are blocked on seeing other details for no reason at all! Well, we are all entitled to do that anyway but I just hope that people will get to speak more rather than putting their expressions to social networking sites. It does not make sense at all! It’s immature and so plastic in form.

We all have our own way of using social networking sites. Some people get to convince themselves by trying to post shouts contrary to their state. Some people who wanted to seek attention put suspense in their status messages. There are others who would showcase their achievements by posting brags. It’s their style!

Anyway, I just hope that as Facebook or any other social networking site becomes famous and so much attached to our daily expression and communication, people using the said technology get to reach the level of maturity that would let such innovations bridge relationships rather than annoy and break-up ties.

Just speaking my mind!

Facebook Conference

Facebook TimelineJust this week, I got so much intrigued with this yet another feature being introduced by Facebook tagged as “Timeline”. Thus, I googled my way to it. With a few clicks, I was able to convert my Facebook profile page layout to the new format which Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says is a "new way to express who you are."

This new feature got a good first impression out from me. It has better aesthetics and it is more image-driven much like a scrapbook. It showcases all your shouts, images and comments not just from the time you joined Facebook but from the date you were born! So it is an online autobiography and a scrapbook put into one!

Facebook this time is popularizing the use of “cover” photo which is what people get to see first in your timeline rather than just your profile picture. So now you have 2 photos acting as part of your header with your basic information displayed below it plus your photos, friends and pages you like represented by thumbnails or images rather than just tabs or text links. As I said, it’s an online scrapbook!

Overall, this is a new breakthrough in social networking. My only concern is same as what skeptics are talking about – security. In this age where identity theft is becoming a trend, we all should be careful with personal information that we share online. Nonetheless, I am sure that Facebook has already thought about this prior and we are all known to this issue true to all social networking sites.

Nonetheless, we still need to be cautious! Facebook Timeline is a cool feature that redefines social networking! It is meant to facilitate better communication and effective collaboration. It is self-expression at its best! Nonetheless, we need to be careful and responsible in using it especially with the personal information we share. Cheers!

It packed maximum sustained winds of 120 km per hour near the center, with gustiness of up to 150 kph.

As it leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of Wednesday noon, I thought of posting some images shared by netizens in various social networking sites and blogs so you will be able to see how powerful Mother Nature can be. With this, I think we all should stop messing with our environment as soon as we can.
