1M WordPress Monthly

A month ago, I thought of checking my blog statistics daily so I could take a screenshot of it when I reached the 1,000,000 hits. Well, I missed doing just that. I just checked today and I may have reached 7-digits last Friday while I was having fun dancing and drinking at a party.

Anyway, I have been blogging on and off lately and my original plan before was to get my own domain name once I reached the 1,000,000 mark. It took me 3.5 years to reach that with almost 625 blog posts and 2775 comments from readers. It’s been fun speaking one’s mind! Thank you!

I just got my son a new desk. Well, actually, it’s not totally new. I bought it from our office. We just moved in to a new building so all fixtures in our old office were all offered for sale to employees. Most of the items were barely 6-months old and they were sold for almost nothing! I got 2 ergonomic chairs as well for a few bucks! Good deal indeed!

Playing computer games for almost the entire school break to beat boredom is not a laughing matter. We only allow him to play during vacation. He can’t play any games during school days! That’s why he’s maximizing his chance to play from dusk until dawn! Besides, he has a few days remaining before school opens. Thus, I’m spoiling my 12-year old gamer some more!

AAPK SAP Go-LiveIt’s done! For 90 Man Days from Project Kick-off to Go-Live, we were able to implement SAP in one of our locations abroad amidst such an aggressive timeline while experimenting with an engagement and methodology that is too new to work perfectly.

May 9 is indeed a good date and 9 is my lucky number! The Project Team really did well. Although we could have done it better and faster, I am happy for setting up a new benchmark on how things are done through collaborative effort.

For the past years, I had almost 50 projects across the globe and this one was challenging because we had to put 3 teams to work as one in 3 countries operating in 3 time zones employing almost 3 methodologies! It was indeed a terrible headache!

Nonetheless, it’s my job to ensure that we hit the goal based on scope, budget and timeline amidst all obstacles and I am proud that the team made it!

I love books and I love reading them. I started buying books almost 12 years ago and I got a few hundreds of the best-selling materials covering computers, management, finances, self-help and photography. I had to send half of my collection to our house in the province due to limited storage though I have kept around 500 titles with me in the city. I’m talking about paper books!

These days, buying books is still an addiction that I intend to keep. Besides, knowledge is power! I used to bring 3 to 5 books when I was younger as a reference to my work. Fast forward to the digital age, I now have almost a thousand books in my collection and I am bringing them all with me everyday! That’s just for a single device. I have more in my old storage disks!

Well, in the old days, it’s impossible to bring an entire library in your hand. It’s even hard to bring 2 to 3 books everyday especially if you are fascinated with famous yet super thick titles like Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga. It’s good that technology is making life more convenient. Thus, we have electronic books or e-books to make reading easy, handy and cheaper! Great!

This morning, we had this once in a blue moon opportunity to have our CEO and the rest of the management team in our office for a short visit. Two hours was indeed a very short one but we were able to maximize it. It was such an honor to be with them! We even had a group photo afterwards. The only thing that I regret not doing was raising my hand on time so I could have had the chance to ask a question that I had to put up a day before!
In my failure to speak my mind, I was indeed restless since the time our CEO left the office to visit another site abroad and even until now as I write this blog entry. I was even rehearsing as I was listening to our CEO’s speech prior to the Q&A portion because I thought I was to be called soon to ask my question. Due to tight schedule, my colleague had to signal the end of the Q&A. It was a dead end!
Upon seeing that I am running out of opportunity to ask, I thought of raising my hand to volunteer. But even before I was about to do that, our CEO started giving his closing remarks by thanking us all. My nervous heart suddenly stopped beating. The feeling was worse than missing a flight home. I wasted my chance to ask our CEO something that I really wanted to know.
We have had discussions and several good questions focused on growth which is really impressive. We have covered safety as well which is our top priority. What I missed and wanted to ask is more about our company’s view on corporate social responsibility or simply social development. We never had a discussion about it nor had people asking the same so I could have raised something different. Tsk.
Our mission statement is three-fold – look at this web-site feeding the world, protecting health and providing the conveniences of life. We develop products so the world can produce food. We provide the right chemistry to keep us healthy and we offer various solutions and technologies to make life easier and convenient. . It’s a statement describing “ find more info why we exist” as a company aside from doing plain business.
My question was more about the people and the company as a whole in relation to social development. How are we doing so far in terms of corporate social responsibility in a global perspective? How are we feeding the world with regards to the issue of world hunger? Where are we now with regards to giving back something to the world? I really want to know the answer and perhaps, I may need to wait for that blue moon to come again!
So why am I so eager to ask my question? Well, the answer is simple! With huge growth comes great responsibility… and I want to be a part of that growth and share with the responsibilities! Cheers!

My Travels

Wow! I have flown around the world for almost 9 times now without me even knowing it. At 31 years old, I have covered 31 trips abroad in 21 countries. I still have more on my travel list and I wish to see more countries before I get to retire 34 years from now. I will be 65 years old then and busy writing my own books and hopefully managing my own empire! Cheers!

20111219-000757.jpgI just came home from a short visit in my birthplace. It has been a practice for me to visit my parents and siblings a day before my birthday. I arrived Manila with barely 5 minutes left on my watch and I still have to wait for the elevator. I always wanted to be home when the clock strikes midnight! I have to be home on my day and it’s always a must!

We’ll, indeed I am still the same old fool who loves rushing in. Fortunately, I always make it so it’s fine! I am home right now and doing the thing I love most which is writing this blog article. Though, I am quite not in the mood, I am still happy that I just turned a year older. Well, age is just a number and being young is an attitude! Right KC? Lol!

Unlike 2 years ago where I was really surprised indeed by my parents and siblings organizing a big party for me, it’s quieter this time. My mother and sister prepared Pinoy-style spaghetti with sweet sauce as how I wanted it plus my favorite kare-kare, a dish often served whenever I come home from Manila during my college days.

Being with my family a day before my birthday is something special for me. I got ice cream for everyone and my father got us the classic “balut”. An aunt who recently arrived from London dropped by and greeted me and so does my mother-in-law via phone call. I got a call too from an uncle in the UK as an advanced greeting. I met my other uncles too!

Nonetheless, I missed having a haircut with my good old barber – Mang Mar! I missed cooking instant “Pancit Canton” too but I had sweet spaghetti when the clock stroked midnight. I guess I deserve an upgrade from instant noodles to pasta! Hahaha! Last year, I had a special celebration too with my friends in Sydney. I got a treat as well from Philippine Airlines through a free seat upgrade while on a flight from Sydney to Manila on my birthday.  Well, I am missing all the pampering though.

Anyway, I have yet to receive my greetings from my son and I am not sure if my wife has something special for me. We were all tired from travelling. Perhaps, it’s a surprise that I have to wait and see but I have something special for myself – I am attending the “Simbang Gabi” later for a change! At the end of the day, I have to give thanks to God for all the blessings he gave me for the past year – for the good health, good career, good marriage and good life.

Overall, I had a wonderful weekend especially for Sunday! We were able to visit my wife’s nephew too which is something that we wanted to do for a long time. Although I missed doing some stuffs as mentioned above and I was really upset a while ago with my phone dropping hard on the pavement as I was getting out of the car, I guess I have to be happy after all! For my scratched phone, it’s probably a sign that I should treat myself anew and get a new one with “voice command”! Hehehe! Besides, it’s my day!!!

Actually, I just borrowed the title from Lady Gaga’s song – Born This Way. I should have used the title of the song itself for this blog article but I prefer something longer. Well, I just want to express my happiness that indeed I am doing fine and I am taking the right path this time. I want so many things for now and I am sure that I will be able to achieve them all by maintaining the right direction and also the right attitude.

This is nothing new to me. I am a purpose-driven person. I always set a goal and no matter what happens, I see to it that I get to achieve it. Even at work, I make things happen even when people doubt that it would even be doable. I push things and I push harder to put reality on every dream. I am a path-finder. I have taken most of the roads even the ones less taken and I have always made it to my destination.

Today, I take another journey towards maturity. 17 days from now and I will be a year older than my wife. I am taking a great leap and I intend to make it so. I am pushing for higher learning in preparation for bigger and better things ahead. I was born to be stubborn and strong-willed. I was born to succeed. Although being on the right track does not mean you are heading to the right direction, I know that I am.

Thus, I can say…

I’m on the right track baby, I was born this way!
